Foood

Stir-fried some eggplant, mushrooms, pork and green onions.

Not sure what I made, but it was good.

Now I'm full and want to pass out.

Freedom!

Well, for the night and tomorrow.

Tokyo plans are also coming together beautifully. And by beautifully, I mean nothing is set except for my buses, my hotel, and my Monday plans.

I got two guide books this time. One for Shitamachi places around where I'm staying and the other filled with libraries in Tokyo.

I need to look up when the Photography Museum is open and look into the exhibits, though I'll be going no matter what. There are a few museums I have my eyes on as well.

Five days are going to just fly by.

But first, to get home without dropping my phone.

Sleepy...

To work!

For two days. Then to Hama! Then back to work! Then to Tokyo!

A Lazy Thursday

So I did very little today.

Though I managed to watch a DVD of the kids baseball event I'm working at in July. Looks like fun. And a chance to me Oh Sadaharu. While I'm not a huge Japanese baseball fan, I know enough to know that's up there on the coolness scale.

Had a Skype date with the parents and my dad seems to be doing okay. He just needs to continue being careful.

For lunch I had a burger that I only managed to nibble on last night. It was a really good burger. Hopefully next time I'll be able to enjoy it in the restaurant.

And now I'm on a slightly long walk. I haven't moved all day, so I ventured out to find a Family Mart or Lawsons to pay for my bus tickets to Tokyo.

Now that that is done, to find dinner.

I was thinking about eating somewhere, but I can't find anything that I feel like eating. Supermarket it is.

My night

Let's just say it was an interesting evening.

While I'm nowhere near as bad as I could be, I did manage to go to the wrong platform and watch my train leave. Oh well.

At least I'm awake and well enough to get home on my own.

And thanks to almost not being in okay condition, I have my lunch for tomorrow!

Look on the bright side, right?

When all is said and done, it was one of the best nights out I've had in a while.

And, just in case you're reading this, thanks for looking after me Greg. I know, I know. I owe you.

Day at the Science Museum: Element Lockers

While lockers at a museum are a must and when they give you your money back after you get your stuff back, it's great.

But science museum lockers labeled with elements corresponding to their elemental numbers take it to seriously higher level of awesome. My stuff was, of course, in Berkelium. And I plan to continue to use it.

Gold, silver, carbon and oxygen were also in use yesterday. Despite gold being in a rather incovinient location, the merits of putting stuff in the gold locker clearly outweighed the inconvenience of having to squat down to use a locker in the bottom row.

Amazing how a simple thing like these labels can affect decisions and make a trip to the science museum more fun.

Wednesday Morning?

It's not even noon and I've done two loads of laundry and eaten lunch. Score!

Now for a nap before I get ready for tonight.

First Prints

I like it!

Still need to work oout the paint details like amount and consistency, but yeah, it turned out well.

After this is some color choice as well as some other details to personalize each one.

For now, sleep!

Ad for smartphone "Designed for humans"

As opposed to...what?

I understand what they are trying to say -it's a user-friendly smartphone- but after 4 days of reading about a vampire-hunting Abe Lincoln, having a perpetually overactive imagination, and realizing ravens have more problem solving skills than small children...

"What" could be the vampire race developing technology to increase their tolerance to the sun or our future avian overloards or the dolphins who will flee Earth when they foresee the imminent destruction of our planet.

I promise, I'll go home and sleep after I play in the science museum a bit. Got a ticket to the planetarium this time. Just before this month's show finishes and then it's time for Tanabata! My favorite holiday.

It's Tuesday!!

Yay!

And I am in need of a new book. My hands are feeling extremely empty right now.

Battle Royale is waiting for me, but it's a BIG book. Physically speaking. Though I should read the Japanese one first. Hrmm.

Maybe tomorrow I'll go to the Sanseido and order Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I've also been eyeing The Graveyard Book. And of course I need to refresh myself on the Hunger Games before September, but I still have a little time for that.

I've obviously entered an intake period. Books and oh the glorious number of movies! The Dark Knight Rises. The Amazing Spiderman. The Avengers. Madagascar 3 (Have you seen the afro circus clip?). And a bunch more I can't remember right now.

Plus I finally got a Tsutaya card. Rentals!! And Gundam is on the streaming site I subscribe to. Got to episode 10 so far of the very first series. Need to finish Zeta because I need to report back to some clients. The second Macross Frontier movie, Ghost in the Shell and SAC are also on that list.

Life is good.

Finished!

Due to the possibility of it being spoilers, I'll bury my initial reaction to the end of this book near the end of this post.

Suffice to say, I bought the book on Friday and 4 full workdays later, I got through all 396 pages.

I'm looking forward to and slightly apprehensive about the movie as I am with anything based on a book I've enjoyed.

A quick look on the net tells me to keep my expectations low. But it won't stop me from going to the theater when it comes out.

And here is the reaction that will be a slight spoiler for future readers: I so should have seen that coming. But I was busy trying to finish the book before my next lesson started.

Final verdict: I liked it. Quite readable once I let go and let the story just happen.

Between shifts: Komeda and vampires

Got to part three. This is a lot better than I expected.

But then again I like vampire stories and the late 1800s and the what ifs and I enjoy Southern literature and I'm American (meaning this is a part of my history), so yeah...

Same old same old?

June is almost over!

What up with that?

Two more days of work, then freedom!
Kind of.

Well, my weekend starts tomorrow morning. Going to the Science Museum. Maybe I can get planetarium tix this time and catch this month's show before it switches to Tanabata.

But now, to read more Abe Lincoln before work.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

It hasn't sucked me in like Hunger Games, but it's good so far.

I have a full day ahead of me though not as full as it could be. I put in an easier schedule for the weekends.

But it might not be enough. My body is starting to pay the price of months of trying too hard. Gotta change things up for August.

Meh. This coming week shows promise so I'll be cheerful again in no time.

Couldn't resist

The movie is opening in Japan later in the year.

I did not know there was an original book. Same guy who wrote Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. Haven't read that one yet either.

Guess who got an annual pass to the science museum

They have dinosaurs there!

Just noticed they have lockers numbered with elements!

Yay for Berkelium and Californium!

Didn't get there early enough to get planetarium tix. But I think I'll try next week.

Also interacted with some kids. This 3-year-old couldn't fit pieces together. Circles and triangles. Last night I saw a YouTube clip of a raven fitting different-shaped pieces into the correct holes in a toy ball.

I both mourn the decline of the human race and fear the rise of the feathered kind.

In the little girl's defense, the puzzle was pretty boring from a kid's point of view. I thought it was rather clever, but too much effort for too little payout.

I like looking at how educational places like this entice kids to look at the world differently. What makes kids say "Wow" What makes them want to learn more?

Anyways, currently eating lunch. Tan tan men!

Tempting the weather

The typhoon-turned-low-pressure system passed by last night and we're supposed to have a rather hot day coming up. But the sky looks like this so I was torn:

Umbrella or No?

Figuring I have a small one stashed away at work, I'm risking the walk from the station to work.

We shall see...

Linner!

Okonomiyaki!

Not too bad if I do say so myself.

Wednesday

If it weren't for the typhoon that just passed and the one approaching, I'd be at my grandmother's right now.

But as usual, she decided I would stay in Nagoya this week and since I've got some much overdue plans happening next week, I won't be seeing her for two more weeks. This bums me out.

On the flip side, I got some laundry done and Skyped with my parents. My dad's back home and Chicago has his buddy back. The cat looked seriously ticked off after being virtually left all alone for a week while my mom stayed with my dad at the hospital.

The salient point is that my dad is home.

For the rest of today I'm going to try finishing up two projects and then get some photos uploaded.

And I'm attempting okonomiyaki for dinner♪

A typhoon's coming

Yeah, not much else to say today. Except that it's getting to be a muggy hot. Even at 6am. This does not bode well.

Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there.

If my own experience says anything, you are appreciated more than your kids actually put into words.

Haircut!

Title says it all.

Going to see Snow White with Samancha. Whee!

Back in Hama for the weekend

Now to do something for half an hour.

What to do...

Hmm? Half hour until what, you ask?

I'll post when I'm done.

決意 #図書館戦争

「好きから逃げない」っか

The movie was good. Different, but I like the twists.

Longer review later. Off to Animate to claim my bookcover.

Then to Hama!

I'm in! #図書館戦争

And I got some goods and a pamphlet. Will get more after the movie. The seats are non-reserved so I had to grab mine before I'd end up crawling over people to get to a open spot. Sitting in the middle of the very back.

Ooh! Ten minutes to go!

GachaGacha! #図書館戦争

Look what I found!

And I got Tezuka!

And the line is moving!

Yay!

Ooh! Goods!

In line #図書館戦争

Just about what I expected. And now to wait for about 30min for numbers and an hour for the show.

Now that I am obviously among the more dedicated, I can say it was worth getting up at 6:30 on a Saturday when I don't have work.

If only I didn't have any next Sunday. Curse being popular.

Also thank my foresight to store my overnight bag in a locker. It's not heavy, but holding it in the rain wouldn't be much fun.

Four years #図書館戦争

After a full month of listening solely to Mamo-chan's album for a month, I've switched to Takahashi Hitomi's Atashi no machi, ashita no machi.

I think I was avoiding it because this song, this series reminds me of a road I've strayed away from. I have full intentions of going back, but there are some things I want to take care of first.

What is a few years compared to the rest of my life? Nothing and everything.

Anyways, I'm on my way to the theater to wait for a number and hopefully catch the first show. Can't be there next week when Tatsu and Maeno are coming into town, but at least I can send another spastic mail to the show filled with every emotion I felt.

Will blog updates as well. It's been years since I've lined up for a first showing. And that was always for big name movies. I knew what I was getting into. This time? Not sure.

No one because it's minor and at a smaller theater? Or a loooong line for the same reason. I guess I'll find out in a few minutes.

Wow, I have butterflies. I feel like I'm going on a first date.

Friday, June 15, 2012

Cloudy Friday morning

It's supposed to rain soon.

Though that should be perfect for tomorrow if the movie kept true to the novel.

Will find out soon.

Yay!

Late night carving fun

Yeah, I'm stupid. But it's coming out pretty cool.

Star-shaped Pino: JUST noticed

I bought another Pino to check. This one was normal, just like I needed. (Took a picture after I ate one.)

Under the star-shaped Pino is a 4-leaf clover!

Thursday morning

I'm just glad I woke up...

So weird to be going to work on a Thursday, but my little schedule mishap allowed me talk to my dad before his surgery, so it all works out.

My dad's doing okay, by the way. He's in recovery now and should be home in a few days. So far, things are looking good.

4 Years of Waiting #tosho_kohoka

ポップコーン & 男子寮

So my favorite seiyuu team? The show that started my obsession with seiyuu radio and brought be back into the anime world? After 4 years, they're back. I called Tatsu a liar the first year or so because he promised in the last episode that they would come back and they didn't. Then I just started saying that I would wait. And keep waiting even if they would never come back. And for years, they never did. Until now.

And not much has changed. It's refreshing. It really is. Sure, stuff has happened and things have changed, but listening to the show feels like meeting old friends. It feels like coming home. And that makes me happier than I could ever express in words.

The picture above is from the final episode 4 years ago. I prepared popcorn and coke, just like Tatsu said to. Out of the most random coincidences, to watch something completely different, I made popcorn and was drinking coke when I found out the show was back. The universe worked itself out pretty damn well.

Monday morning

I somehow managed to schedule this week wrong and I'm working on Thursday morning instead of tomorrow, but it looks like it'll work out.

Have a Skype date with the lovely Cat and then probably another with my parents. Then I'm on a quest to find frozen berries to make daiquiris for movie night.

Whee!
