Long Way Down

So while I was catching up on American TV and flipping through the stuff on Hulu, I found Long Way Down. AWESOME!! I know it's not going to be as amazing as Long Way Round where everything was new and unknown. This is the second trip. They kinda sorta know where to start and they don't have as many naysayers as the first series. It does make me happy to see all the sponsors they have and all the drama they don't have to go through just to get bikes. I kind of wondered if it would have the same magic, but two episodes in, I feel the same rush that I get when I watch Long Way Round. There's so much that is unknown in a different way from the first series.

I want to go do something stupid. I always do when I watch these two guys plus company on the road. This show makes me feel like all I really need is to be true to my passions. Then buckle down and do what needs to be done.

That's how life is in general, isn't it? But this show makes me actually feel like it's possible and that I want to do it. It's possibly one of my greatest sources of inspiration.

Happy Thanksgiving

Sorry I haven't really posted since I've been back. I've been hanging out with the parents, playing with (terrorizing) my cat, and working on my holiday cards (currently in the carving stage).

Today is Thanksgiving, so we're headed up to Bakersfield in a few minutes to see my aunt and cousin and have some turkey. Since we are leaving in a few minutes, this post is a bit more than slightly rushed.

I have a few pictures to share (mainly of the cat, what else did you expect?) and will hopefully get to those later after I get back. Catch you laters.

Guess who got a random extra security check!

But it's all good. Relatively harmless and I got to go on the plane first! So, in someways, score.

And! I might have an empty seat next to me!

If it stays that way, I'll ignore the fact that I will have no one between me and an extremely fidgety 9-year-old.

If it doesn't, someone else will suffer the 9.5 hours of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and unsynchronized light flickering.

Okies, doors closing. Headphones for the whole flight it is.

Catch you stateside.

Rainbow! Ramen! Gyoza!

Yes, I'm at the airport.

The rainbow was awesome. The ramen was overpriced, but had really good char-siu. The gyoza were sub-par, but the staff did what they could given what they had.

Repacked my bag from security-point-friendly to on-flight-efficient and currently charging my phone and MP3 player before searching for a drinking fountain before going to the gate.

So far, so good.

Narita

Ate some morning soba while I waited for my friend, then we went to Narita-san and hung out. It was cool to see her and just chat.

Now I'm on my way back to the airport to get my luggage and check-in to my flight.

From airport to station

Put my bigger bags into storage and now heading to Narita station to meet up with a friend.

At Tokyo Station

Part of me wanted to take more pics of the gorgeous building, but mainly, I want to get myself to the airport.

10 minutes to get from the bus to the ticket machine to the platform. Not bad.

Rainy Saturday and Ko-chan

Couldn't resist yesterday when I spotted Koichi's new album.

One of these days I'll go to his concert and bask in his light. KinKi Kids Koichi is one thing, Koichi Domoto is another. As much as I loved their music back in high school and still love those albums, and have never stopped loving them on TV shows, KinKi Kids music has lost its magic for me. And while I respect Tsuyoshi's solo work, I love Koichi's music.

I love the world he creates. It's made to be performed on the stage by him. When the music reaches the audience through his performance, that's when it's finally complete. What I'm listening to through my headphones is just part of the journey. He's a performer.

So one day, Shock or a concert tour, I'd love to experience this world he's created in person. I totally believe it would surpass the very high expectations I have for him. He is, after all, the charming prince riding a white horse.

Last morning pic for a few weeks.

Work today and tomorrow, a day of frantic packing, a night bus, breakfast with a friend, then I'm leaving on a jet plane to be back in December.

Kimono♪

A friend of mine invited me to a kimono show this evening and this also involved getting dressed up in kimonos. I had a new one that I got when my mom was visiting back in May that I've been wanting to wear, and while I know how to put on a yukata, kimonos are a different story, so this was perfect.

First, I had to borrow a huge amount of stuff from my grandmother because I just had the kimono and none of the other necessary items. Today my friend picked me up and we went to her kimono teacher's place and she dressed me up. It's been so long since I've worn one of these. Pretty nifty.

We went to the show, which showcased different kimono styles through the seasons with a few demonstrations, then we took some purikura and had a late dinner. Not bad for two girls who have been awake since 5am.

Since it might be a while before I wear a kimono again, I'm just going to keep wearing this until I change into my PJs. They're a lot more comfortable than you might imagine.

One extra picture: Han'nya Mel (WARNING: May cause nightmares. )

The difference 30 minutes makes

Work starts 45 minutes later today and I managed to oversleep on just the right day.

It's amusing how my brain can't compute waking up and seeing 5:40 on a clock. 4:40, sure. But 5:40 is getting ready to leave the house. Weird.

One week

I'm so not ready to go home yet. Nowhere near ready. Not that there's a lot to pack, but I still need to actually pack. So much to do! And every day is packed with stuff. Grrr.

New umbrella

After serving me for about 8 years, my lovely mikan umbrella began to leak at the seams, so I retired it a few months back and didn't get another one until two weeks ago. Which I just realized is Tsurumai Blue.

Let's see if it actually rains tonight.

LED signs down

Didn't realize just how much comfort they gave me until they were out-of-service this morning.

Normally they'd list the next two trains and the news, but right now, just the direction.

But the train came all the same. As long as I get to work on time, I'm good.

Full week

I feel like it's been a while since I've been in all week. But's probably because I have full schedules on Saturday and Sunday. Meh.

I'm usually really into my lessons, but on the flip-side, that's precisely why I get so tired on the weekend. I need to adjust my schedule so I feel like I'm doing my job without taking on the mental and physical burden that I feel now.

Next month. Hopefully I'll be able to work full weeks without having to psyche myself up as much as I do now.

But for now, to get through this week with my usual smile.

Afternoon in Kyoto

Picture from a few hours ago.

Yummy burger for lunch. Then wandering around until we get to Nanzenji.

At Nanzenji, now onto Tetsugaku no Michi.

On Tetsugaku no michi. Possibly going to a cafe.

Found a cafe!

After a long rest at the cafe, and a long bus ride back, we watched a water show at the station. Now to check-in and go back out for drinks.

To Kyoto!

Hanging with cool people in Kyoto for the next two days.

Expect either tons of blogagge or none at all. :)

Keeping my hopes low for fall leaves, most reports say they just started to turn. I am, however, keeping my fingers crossed for no rain. Taking my chances and left the umbrella at home.

Whatever the weather, this promises to be good.

Kyoto tomorrow!!

But first I have to survive today. Not that it's really "survival". I have some great people coming in today.

But there are other things I want to be thinking about right now.

Like Kyoto.

And California in two weeks.

And cleaning out my closet before I take off for a few weeks.

And life after I get back.

Close call

Woke up with my 5am alarm and the subsequent 2 alarms, pretty awake each time, but still managed to wake up at 8:30. Still enough time to take a shower before heading out the door to catch a decent train, but yeah...

Gotta get out of the "just a few more minutes" mindset.

To work!

Despite only sleeping for 3 hours, I feel refreshed. I did have a 3 hour nap as well from 6 to 9 so that might have helped.

Watch me crash around noon...

*knocks on wood*

A pretty full work week coming up and I'm trying to not let it faze me. We shall see.
