Movie Monthly: January 2013

Only one movie in the theaters, but because of a sudden trip back to SoCal, a lot of movies watched on the plane.

After doing a check on the current information on upcoming movies, I realized that there are really way too many for me to keep writing in the blog. So I've changed the Upcoming section to my top ten or so movies I want to see which may include movies already in theaters as well as, of course, upcoming ones. In order of release.

I'm leaving on a jet plane

Should be back in mid February. Catch you on the other side.

Almost feels like any other Friday

But it's not.

I'm headed home. California home.

I want to write more, but I slept for a total of 3 hours and I ran to the station this morning, so I'm not doing so hot. Might actually sleep on the flight this time.

Going home

So I mentioned a layover in Incheon in my last post and that's because I'm headed back to SoCal tomorrow.

My dad asked for me to come home.

So I'm going home. I scheduled my return flight for mid-February. It might be later than that. I'll deal with that when I get to it. I wanted to take care of a few things before heading out. Not that I could get everything done, but it's better than it was two days ago.

Plus in the end getting tickets actually takes a while. I finally got the e-ticket last night and I still need to print it.

I'm at my grandmother's right now. Needed to help her out with her computer and I wanted to pick up 「夏の方程式」 for the flight. The movie is coming out this summer and as much as the story is going to be different, I really want to read it first. Actually, after 「ガリレオの苦悩」 and「聖女の救済」 the novels and the TV/movie version are much closer.

Anyways, I'm trying to also clear some of the HDD on my grandmother's TV so I can watch TOKIO when I get back. Just clearing off the last episode of DASH on here and watched 「TOKIOカケル」 and 「新・堂本兄弟」 and after this, I'm on to 「相棒」 and That should be it.

Most of all, especially since I don't know for sure when I'll be back, I wanted to visit before I left.

Gotta head back soon. Laundry and last minute tidying up the room. Time to face reality...

Finished with DASH, now it's 「相棒」 time. Gotta actually pay attention. Love this new season. カイト君!

Headed to Toyokawa

Finally! My hatsumode! I kept missing the chance to go to Toyokawa to return the omamori I got last year and pay my respects. But now, perhaps the most important time, I can finally go.

It's here!

Yay. The expected delivery date was tomorrow, so I was extra happy to get it this morning.

I'm just getting it set up and figuring things out. Even after just typing on it on the subway, I am in love. It's what I needed.

And I'm glad it made it in time. This darling is going to be perfect for the 4 hour layover in Incheon.

Oh yeah, I'm going back to SoCal on Friday. More on that later.

Another work week begins

But my Tuesday is still empty, so I might make it a short week. Monday evening too. Gotta clean. I've got guests coming over soon.

At the Theater: Les Miserables

Finally! Well, I guess not *that* long. I had my heart set on watching this last month, but didn't get the chance until now. Yay! Hugh Jackman! Anne Hathaway! Les Mis! Yay!

Radio gig

Soo...I just started a volunteer thing
where I translate a bit of info into English and read it on the radio. Recording once every two months for about 5 minutes of air time.

My first time in a recording booth. Nerveracking. And I tripped over my words more times than I'd like to count. But I didn't go down in a flaming ball of fail, so I'll call this a win.

Lookie what I bought!

It's kinda sorta on its way. Apple received the payment and the order is being processed. Yay.

I could have checked in at the Apple store on occasion to see if they had them in stock, but that gets tiring and looks desperate. Plus ordering online has a free engraving option and free shipping. It's scheduled to arrive early next month. I'll head to the Apple Store after that to get help setting it up and buy accessories and such.

My iPad mini will make translating, blogging, and other projects much more efficient. Not to mention making exercise more entertaining. (Going to watch so many movies while on an elliptical.)

Added bonus, it will also delay my jump onto the smartphone bandwagon indefinitely, which I am quite happy about.

Still DARK!

Stayed up later than I should have last night. But with all the talk about the Golden Globes, I had to check out some clips. It was awesome. Totally worth the bags under my eyes.

In other news, I'm a total bag lady today. Have gym stuff and my regular stash. So wish I had one of the big lockers at work. Maybe it's time to clear out the tiny ones I have and make two sets so I don't have to carry around so much. I wonder if my clipboard will fit...Will ponder this later.

Productive/Expensive Day

Joined a gym (not the kickboxing one) and needed to get some indoor shoes since I scheduled my orientation for tomorrow after work. That hurt the wallet a bit.

But I don't regret my decision. The gym has a lower monthy fee than the kickboxing place, plus it's in Sakae, all women, has classes (including hot yoga), and I signed up on a "no registration or processing fee and Jan and Feb free" campaign. I just had to pay for March and April.

Now when I get my hands on an iPad mini, I can use the treadmills and ellipticals without getting bored.

The hot yoga room will probably lead to getting sports glasses, which I've been meaning to get for years now.

Mmm retail therapy.

Also, I got the shoes for 30% off, so it's not too wallet draining.

Morning Adventures: TORELU - Morning Set 250yen

They were out of their usual umeboshi this weekend so there was a choice between mentaiko, egg and something else.

I went with egg both days. Mmm, raw egg on rice with soy sauce. One of my favorite things ever.

Happy Birthday Mabo!

He's 36! When I became a fan, he had just turned 20. He's changed, but not that much. I'm glad. I hope he continues to become an older version of himself.

Blogging in 2013

One of the things I've been meaning to do is clean up my blog a bit. I've thought about starting new blogs, but I'd never take care of them, so the blogging is staying here. Instead, I've decided to give similar posts specific titles. I went back and changed the title of some of my January posts and a few of the December posts.

"Movie Monthly" for the end of the month movie wrap-up post
"At the Theater" for posts of my movie stubs while I wait for my movie to start
"Morning Adventures" for posts with morning sets
"The Gyoza Project" for posts on gyoza, both cooking and eating gyoza
"In the Kitchen" for cooking posts
"Itadakimasu" for restaurant posts
"Turning Pages" for posts on books
"Wordless Wednesday" for random single photo posts taken from Flickr

I might change my mind on these things as I'm never really sure about things until I actually go through with them. But as of right now, I'm pretty satisfied with them. I hope to take care of my blog and its labels a bit more this year.

A year of blogging, gyoza, movies, eating, traveling, and survival.

Morning Adventures: Cafe de Crie - Morning Set B 390yen

Morning set B. Coffee, toast, sausage, and salad for 390yen.

Killing time until Loft opens. Then some shopping, chores at home, then off to grandmother's house!

Day by Day

I'm okay, but I'm not. I'm not okay, but I am.

2013 is off to a hell of a start. The name of the game is survival. And I intend to survive. And I do that by putting myself first when necessary. I am the star of my life. It's about time I start acting like it.

As for what's going on, I'll get to that later.

Itadakimasu: Dinner! TanTanMen!

Tummy is happy. Wallet...not so much. Oh well.

Morning Adventures: Doutor - Morning Set B 380yen

Just got off my morning shift and dropping by the Apple store in Sakae before heading to Meieki for my evening shift. I'm not going to make it for my regular morning curry, so I stopped by Doutor.

The sandwich wasn't bad at all. Not quite filling, but for 380yen, I'm not going to complain.

Alrighties, to the Apple Store.

First early morning of the year

Got an email yesterday that I was both waiting for and dreading at the same time.

This year is going to be different on far too many levels.

Sorry for being cryptic. This is just the beginning so more will come to light as the year progresses.

On a lighter note, I'm about 90% ready to purchase an iPad Mini at my earliest convenience. Other things have also started to change and the "necessity" factor has grown significantly.

I wanted to hold off on big purchases, but an iPad would give me a way to be more efficiently use my time. Especially on Mondays and Fridays.

Luckily for me, there's an Apple store a block away from my workplace. Dropping by if I can after my morning shift today.

Back to work

It's been a while since I uploaded a non-purikura pic of myself, so here you go.

I had a good New Years. Aside from one thing outside of my control, it was really chill and relaxed.

Now back to work. I need to close less lessons because I need the cash. Big travel plans this year. And I still want to go home at least once.

More thoughts later. This morning, I want to read.

Starting 2013 off on the right foot

Ozoni with osechi

TOKIO with Arashi on ZIP!

Gyoza for lunch

New Year's sweets at tea time

Shoten Special

After this is TOKIO's Ultraman and then the New Year's Aibo special at the same time as the Arashi ni shiyagare special. Recording Aibo for later; it's going to be awesome.

I love New Year's TV.

Happy 2013

May 2013 be a year filled with smiles and laughter.

As for me...
you know they say you'll spend the year doing what you did at midnight? I was watching the Johnny's Countdown and wishing Ko-chan a Happy Birthday.

And TOKIO made an appearance! Yay!! My year has started out properly.
